Truck Burns Thursday on Aleknagik's South Shore

1989 Ford truck smoked, then burned, while plowing snow at the end of Atsat Road. No other injuries or damage reported.

DILLINGHAM:  An old truck being used to plow snow on the south shore of Aleknagik caught fire last night around 6:30 p.m. This happened at the Grant place at the end of Atsat Road; apparently the Grants are out of town, and a house-sitter was using the Grants' 1989 Ford to clear the driveway.

Volunteer firefighters from Aleknagik and Dillingham responded. Nearby lake shore residents reported at least one dramatic explosion from the fire.

Responders sprayed the truck down with water and foam and were able to extinguish the flames. Crews were off the scene a few minutes after 8:00 p.m.

No injuries were reported. The truck was a loss, but it was far enough away from other structures that no additional damage was listed.
