Standoff ends peacefully in Togiak

Michael Poulsen, 22, taken into custody after lengthy armed standoff. AST, Togiak Police report no injuries. This story is developing. Check back for details.

KDLG:  Michael Poulsen, 22, was taken into custody more than a day after a standoff began in the village of Togiak. State troopers say he surrendered around 11:00 a.m. Monday.

Early details suggest Poulsen was intoxicated and threatened a family member with firearm Sunday morning. The family member fled the house and contacted authorities. Poulsen barricaded himself in the house. Troopers arrived from Dillingham not long later, and heard shots fired from inside the house. They say initial efforts to contact Poulsen were unsuccessful.

AST's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) was deployed from Anchorage, arriving Monday morning. A negotiator established contact, and Poulsen surrendered unharmed around 11:00 a.m.

A village police officer confirmed Poulsen was in custody in the village jail while troopers continued an on-scene investigation. He is expected to be transported to Dillingham this afternoon, and has been charged with third degree assault and weapons misconduct.
