Power pole damaged by "phantom," alleged drunk driver told police

KDLG

DPD charged Sabrina Savo, 34, with crashing a black Dodge truck into a downtown power pole after drinking at the bar Saturday.

DILLINGHAM:  A power pole downtown was smashed late Saturday night or early Sunday morning, and police allege a drunk driver is to blame.

The accident was reported to police just before 1 a.m. Sunday. An officer wrote that the pole appeared to have been moved "3 to 4 inches", and the middle section broken, leaving the pole angled. A grill from a Dodge truck and other pieces of the vehicle were located nearby.

Police say they drove around looking for a damaged black Dodge truck, and found it not far away on Main Street. There they spoke with Sabrina R. Savo, 34, who appeared intoxicated. Denying her own involvement, she claimed a "phantom" must have been the driver, according to police.

Savo pointed the finger at others who might have driven the truck, but police say each refuted the accusations.

A police report notes that Savo's blood alcohol level was .254 percent, more than three times the legal limit to be behind the wheel. She was charged with DUI, failing to report an accident, and felony criminal mischief for the damaged pole.
