Pot grow at Grandma's House seized

DILLINGHAM: Grandma's House was going green recently, but not the legal, energy-savings way.

The manager of the Marrulut Eniit Assisted Living Center (Grandma's House) and her boyfriend have been cited for growing more than the legal number of marijuana plants inside the closet of the manager's apartment.

Brianna Brandon, 25, and Phillip Barger, 25, have been issued court summons on misdemeanor drug charges.

Police say 13 pot plants were seized. Alaska law, while still a little unclear, allows for six plants per household.

Grandma's House also receives some federal funding through the Bristol Bay Housing Authority. Regarding the use and possession of marijuana on premise, BBHA has advised HUD residents and employees to abide by federal law, which still lists pot as a controlled substance.

BBHA said Friday that Brandon has submitted a letter of resignation.
