Photos: Snake Lake Road closed for maintenance after heavy rains

DOT

DOT hopes to have the road repaired and open to traffic by the weekend.

KDLG:  Snake Lake Road, north of Dillingham, was closed to thru traffic Wednesday after some major washouts were reported.

The first fall Bering Sea storm brought heavy rains to the area Monday night and Tuesday. The road passes over several creeks that drain off Snake Mountain. Two trouble spots are along the side of the mountain, and another is just below the hairpin turn at the base of the mountain.

Department of Transportation crews were working on the road Wednesday and Thursday, and hoped to reopen it to traffic in time for the weekend.
