Naknek house burns down in supposed electrical fire

A house east of Naknek was destroyed early Tuesday morning in what the homeowners believe was an electrical fire.

In a message to KDLG Tuesday afternoon, homeowner Tanya Mahoy said a crackling noise from the fire woke her partner Ben Stichler around 4:20 in the morning. They ran outside, where Mahoy says Stichler attempted to control the flames using a garden hose. She re-entered the smoke-filled house to rescue their puppy, and all three escaped.

Mahoy said the frame of the house is still standing, but nearly all of its contents – including electronics, furniture, kitchen equipment, and clothing – were lost before firefighters could stop the blaze.

Mahoy wrote she thinks an electrical fire started in the entryway of the home.
