Man arrested in Koliganek for failing to register as a sex offender

DILLINGHAM:  Elmer B. Amos, 29, of Mekoryuk, was arrested Thursday in Koliganek for failing to register as a sex offender. Amos was convicted in 2008 in Bethel on a 2007 charge of third degree sexual assault, and sentenced to two years in prison and five years of probation.

The Koliganek VPSO contacted Amos on Wednesday, according to a trooper press release, and learned Amos had been living in Koliganek for most of October. Under the terms of his conviction, Amos is required to register as a sex offender, update his new address with the sex offender registry, and notify local law enforcement. Troopers allege he did none of those. He was taken to jail in Dillingham pending an arraignment.
