LBC to take testimony on petitions seeking to annex all or a portion of Nushagak commercial fishing district to collect raw fish tax. LBC staff recommends against both, but commissioners want to hear from public.

The Nushagak is the only commercial fishing district in Bristol Bay that does not have a tax for a local governing entity. Manokotak and Dillingham want to change that, but LBC staff disagree with annexation petitions.

This week the state’s Local Boundary Commission is expected to travel to Manokotak and Dillingham for public hearings on two annexation petitions. Both cities are seeking to annex all or a portion of the Nushagak commercial fishing district to collect raw fish tax revenues. Even though a staff report recommends against both petitions, the commissioners want to hear from the public before they make a  final decision.
