Robert Nielsen, Jr., 57, charged after breaking the arm of a man with a ball-peen hammer Monday.
DILLINGHAM: Robert Nielsen Jr., 57, was arrested by Dillingham Police Monday after allegedly hitting a family member with a hammer, breaking the victim’s arm.
He was charged with first degree assault, a class A felony, for the attack.
The incident allegedly began with a family argument at the Cottonwood Apartments.
Police say Nielsen swung a ball-peen hammer at the head of the victim, who is his son-in-law. The victim raised his arm to protect himself, and took the hammer’s blow in his forearm. He told police he heard his bone break when the hammer hit, and a doctor later confirmed the fracture.
Nielsen was arraigned on the charge Tuesday morning. The magistrate set bail at $10,000, and required that Nielsen be in the custody of a third party custodian if released.
