Curyung Tribal Council Offers Summer Programs to Dillingham

http://www.curyungtribe.com/

The Curyung Tribal Council is offering several different programs this summer to the people in Bristol Bay.

The Curyung Tribal Council aims to serve tribal members and promote social, economic and political progress.  This summer, the council is offering a series of programs that can help residence financially and socially.  Tribal Administrator for the Curyung Tribal Council in Dillingham Dorothy Larson says the 2014 Energy Assistance Program helps residence in Dillingham with financial assistance for utilities.  She says the money comes from grants from the Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation and the Tribal Council.

“This year the council did decide to apply for those funds and allow each household to apply for the services, which means they must meet certain guidelines, to get $500 for each heating fuel or electricity. We are still accepting applications for that and will through the end of August.”

Larson says the Tribal Council works with the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium to provide the Scattered Sites Water and Sewer Program.

“We usually collect applications through the winter and early spring, submit those to ANTHC and based on the number of applications and projects for either water or sewer or both that they have. They then go to the Indian Health Service and request funds to do projects. So we solicit applications this year for projects that we are going to do next year.”

Each summer the Tribal Council offers an Annual Cultural Camp which is already in progress and will run through August 1st.  The Camp is sponsored by the Bristol Bay Native Association and SAFE and operates Tuesday-Friday from noon to 5PM.  Larson says although the camp is full, if parents want to accompany their child they are allowed to attend.
