Bethel woman indicted for manslaughter for injecting father with heroin

Shannon Cooke, 35, allegedly provided and injected her father with heroin, which led to his death in Anchorage last September.

KDLG:  A grand jury has indicted a Bethel woman on a charge of manslaughter for allegedly providing, and injecting, her father with heroin which ultimately resulted in the man’s death.

Shannon Cooke, 35, was taken into custody Friday by Bethel police and is being held on $20,000 bail.

The incident happened in Anchorage last September. Police and medics responded to a call that 56-year-old Thomas Tungwenuk was found unresponsive in an apartment after using heroin. He was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead. An autopsy determined that Tunwenuk died from acute combined effects of heroin and alcohol.

If convicted of the manslaughter charge, Cooke faces up to 20 years in prison. She has also been indicted on a charge of second degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.
