Aleknagik man injured in four-wheeler crash with moose

Update, Wednesday, 10 a.m: Kermit Ramey is in "good condition" at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.

The 21-year-old from Aleknagik was medevaced Tuesday morning after crashing into a moose near the south shore of Aleknagik.

According to his mother, Lillian Chukwak, Ramey was driving a four-wheeler on Lake Road near the old Aleknagik dump when he collided with a moose. It’s unclear how fast he was driving or whether he had his lights on.

A friend found Ramey unconscious some time later; he apparently regained consciousness on the way to Kanakanak Hospital.

Chukwak received a call just before 6 a.m. from hospital staff, who told her Ramey had a broken collarbone and fractured skull, but was in stable condition. Ramey was then medevaced to the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage.
