Alaska DOT Asking for Public Comment on State Managed Airports

Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is conducting a review of the Alaska Administrative Code regulations.

The department is requesting public comments on chapter 42 and 45 of the AAC regulation.  These chapters have to do with state managed airports only.  Alaska International Airports System planning manager Alex Moss says of the over 700 airports in the state, 254 are run by the DOT.

Moss says the state isn’t looking for one particular issue or comment-- it’s just looking for feedback.

“The review going on both internal and external, looking for the public’s comments, we’re not specifically targeting anything. So this is one of those open reviews that we just want to know if there’s anything that the public has, really anyone has, on the regulatory environment as to whether or not it needs to be adjusted. We’re looking for ideas on things that are new that are not being regulated that need to be, things that are currently regulated that may need amending because maybe it’s been awhile since we’ve taken a look at it and it’s just gotten old. There are also provisions potentially that are on the books that deal with things that we no longer do.”

Moss says the last time international airports under chapter 42 were reviewed was about 12 years ago.  Chapter 45 airports, those in rural areas, have had smaller reviews over the years.

For more information and a copy of the regulations visit the Alaska Legislative website at www.legis.state.ak.us. Comments can be submitted through November 17th via email to alex.moss@alaska.gov.
