VPSO’s are currently precluded from being armed but the shooting death of a VPSO officer in the Bristol Bay region earlier this year has resulted in an effort to change the rules. WAANT Team and VPSOs Seize Liquor in Manokotak

A man at a construction camp in Manokotak has been charged with importing alcohol into the local option community.  An investigator with the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team along with Manokotak VPSOs served a search warrant Tuesday and seized three 1.75 liter bottles of whiskey and vodka.  49 year old Mark Michaelsen of Anchorage was charged by summons with the importation of alcohol to a local option community.

Togiak Man Arrested for Assault

A Togiak man was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly assaulting a woman.  The Togiak VPSO responded to a report from a 23 year woman who said that 21 year old Kevin Clark had attempted to strangle her on Saturday.  The VPSO arrested Clark and brought him to the Dillingham jail on charges of 2nd degree assault.

Togiak Man Arrested Following Chase

A Togiak man was arrested after a 4-wheeler chase last Thursday night.  Around 11:30, the Togiak VPSO spotted a man recklessly driving a 4 wheeler and tried to stop him. The man, identified as 22 year old Charles Smeaton Junior then sped away.  The VPSO chased after Smeaton until the 4 wheeler’s chain broke.  Smeaton then ran off on foot before the VPSO caught up and arrested him. 

New Stuyahok Man Arrested for hitting VPSO

A New Stuyahok man was arrested Saturday for allegedly hitting the VPSO.  According to state troopers, the VPSO responded after reports of a fight involving 21 year old Bradley Bond. 

Troopers say that as the VPSO investigated, Bond struck the officer.  He was then arrested and taken to the Dillingham jail. Bond faces charges of Assault 4 and disorderly conduct.

Togiak Man Arrested on Assault Charges

A Togiak man is in custody after allegedly threatening to kill two family members.  Around 9 p.m. Wednesday night, the Togiak VPSO responded to a house on the report of a possible assault.  There the VPSO arrested 23 year old Norman E. Blue. His family members had fled the residence following the threats and then contacted the VPSO.

Blue is facing two counts of 4th degree assault and is held in the Togiak jail without bail.  Troopers say alcohol was not a factor.
