On Thursday U.S. Senator Mark Begich addressed the ongoing economic summit of the Southwest Alaska Municipal Conference in Anchorage. He spoke about the Pebble Mine, a natural gas pipeline, and criticism he received recently from members of the Alaska Legislature. Several members of the coalition that has come together to oppose development of the proposed Pebble Mine will be in Washington D.C. next week to take their message to members of Congress and the administration of President Barak Obama. KDLG’s Mike Mason has the details.

Several members of the Alaska Legislature sent a letter of support earlier this month to the head of the company looking at developing the controversial Pebble Mine in the Bristol Bay region. The letter was signed by 8 lawmakers including the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House.
