Flareups at Shishaldin and earthquakes at Semisopochnoi are among the latest occurrences at Alaska’s volcanoes.  KDLG’s Chase Cavanaugh has more.

Alaska Volcano Observatory

Scientists at the Alaska Volcano Observatory are paying extra close attention lately due to high seismic activity at five volcanoes running all along the Aleutian Chain. Many of the volcanoes have recently sprung back to life, and others have just continued their normal eruptions. John Power is the Scientist-in-charge at AVO. He says a few recent explosions and heightened unrest have led to the busiest time since the inception of the state’s observatory.

The ongoing eruption of the Pavlof Volcano on the Alaska Peninsula has gazers and scientists paying close attention, and now there are reports of activity at another Alaskan volcano. KDLG’s Luke Brummer has the details.

Multiple explosions were detected Saturday morning at the remote Cleveland Volcano in the Aleutian Islands. 3 explosive events were detected. The first came at 5-am Saturday morning, followed by a second explosion at 7:17-am. The third explosive event was recorded at 11:44-am.
