Alaska’s unemployment rate stood at 5.9 percent this May, unchanged from April.  The Dillingham census area had higher unemployment than the state at 8.7 percent, but it among the lowest in the southwest region. 192 people were register as unemployed, down from 214 last May.  The Bristol Bay Borough’s rate was the lowest in the Southwest at 3.2 percent.  The Lake and Peninsula Borough was at 6.6 percent.

Alaska’s Attorney General has signed onto a letter urging Congressional opposition to a bill that would allow states to collect sales taxes on purchases made over the internet. Michael Geraghty claims the legislation would prompt years of “costly, protracted and unnecessary litigation”.

Coop says internet customers can "rest a little easier" with more usage on their accounts, which could help avoid overage charges.

Cybercrimes Increase in Alaska and Nationwide

A new report from the FBI's "Internet Crime Complain Center" shows an increase in the number of cybercrimes in Alaska. KDLG's Mike Mason has the story.

The inaugural flight of Iceland Air into the Anchorage International Airport will occur Wednesday afternoon. The company plans to provide twice weekly, non-stop service between Reykjavik and Anchorage with a flight time of about 7-hours. 

One of the major fuel suppliers in the Bristol Bay region is looking at expanding to provide a place for large marine vessels to be stored in Dillingham. KDLG's Mike Mason has the details.

The latest State sponsored oil and gas lease sale that covered large sections of the Alaska Peninsula and Bristol Bay did not receive any bids from exploration companies. The results of the Alaska Peninsula lease sale, as well as the Cook Inlet Areawide sale, were announced Wednesday in Anchorage.

4 popular varieties of frozen pizzas have been pulled from store shelves because they may contain plastic fragments. The pizzas were sold in Alaska.
