Cybercrimes Increase in Alaska and Nationwide

A new report from the FBI's "Internet Crime Complain Center" shows an increase in the number of cybercrimes in Alaska. KDLG's Mike Mason has the story.

The inaugural flight of Iceland Air into the Anchorage International Airport will occur Wednesday afternoon. The company plans to provide twice weekly, non-stop service between Reykjavik and Anchorage with a flight time of about 7-hours. 

One of the major fuel suppliers in the Bristol Bay region is looking at expanding to provide a place for large marine vessels to be stored in Dillingham. KDLG's Mike Mason has the details.

The latest State sponsored oil and gas lease sale that covered large sections of the Alaska Peninsula and Bristol Bay did not receive any bids from exploration companies. The results of the Alaska Peninsula lease sale, as well as the Cook Inlet Areawide sale, were announced Wednesday in Anchorage.

4 popular varieties of frozen pizzas have been pulled from store shelves because they may contain plastic fragments. The pizzas were sold in Alaska.

Southwest Alaska Leads the State in Unemployment

The latest unemployment data from the State of Alaska shows that Southwest Alaska continues to be the only region in the state with double-digit unemployment. KDLG's Mike Mason has the story.

The Bristol Bay Native Corporation has created a new subsidiary. Bristol Bay Resource Solutions LLC will provide accounting, human resources, information technology and corporate communications for other BBNC subsidiaries.

Southwest Alaska Has Double Digit Unemployment

The Southwest region of Alaska is the only region in the State with double-digit unemployment. The February unemployment data was released on Friday and it shows a 13.2-percent unemployment rate in Southwest Alaska. That's down from the 14.4-percent in January but is slightly higher than the 12.9-percent rate recorded in February of 2012.

Alaska's unemployment rate has been lower than the national rate for 51 straight months. As KDLG's Mike Mason explains... that's a record and it's the longest stretch since unemployment has been officially counted in Alaska.

A new forecast anticipates that construction spending this year will be up about 8-percent compared to last year.
