Wolverines host cross country invitational

KDLG

High school runners aim for spot at regionals, while DMS 8th grader Sadie Tuckwood posts fastest time of the day.

Dillingham hosted a cross country invitational Saturday, as high school runners gear up for regionals this coming weekend in Unalaska.  KDLG’s Dave Bendinger has more:

The Dillingham Wolverines hosted runners from Bristol Bay and Southwest Region Schools for an invitational ahead of next weekend's regionals in Unalaska. The downtown course offered spectators a lot of opportunity to watch the action on what proved to be near perfect weather for outdoor sports. The high school boys race saw the most competitive action, with Bristol Bay's Noah Smith edging out Dillingham's Cole Dull by a hair, and New Stuyahok's Casey Konukpeok hot on their heels. But running in a league of her own, DMS 8th grader Sadie Tuckwood's 17:22 beat the fastest male runner of the day by ten seconds, and the next fastest female runner by four minutes.

8th grader Sadie Tuckwood's short season ended with a win. Running in one high school post season event this year will cost her a year's eligibility in her high school career beginning next year, said mom/coach Cindy Tuckwood.
