Winter Storm Warning in effect for Bristol Bay this weekend

National Weather Service

According to the National Weather Service, some areas of Bristol Bay could see between 8-12 inches of snow on the ground.

The National Weather Service is warning that weather could be stormy Saturday night and Sunday morning in Southwest Alaska.

“We have that front pushing in tomorrow afternoon with snow and rain, rain mostly along the coast. But all places should get at least a little bit of snow,” said David Kramer, a Meteorologist with NWS in Anchorage.

Villages north of Dillingham and King Salmon are likely to get a significant amount of snow. NWS is predicting it could fall 8 to 12 inches deep in some places.

“That’s going to start around 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon on Saturday with the heaviest stuff starting to come more in the evening and over nighttime periods. That’s going to progress from west to east across the whole Bristol Bay area,” said Kramer.

In addition to rain and snow, wind gusts may reach 40 miles per hour. The Winter Weather Warning from NWS goes into effect at 6 p.m. Saturday and lasts until 9 a.m. Sunday.
