Update on fireworks ban for Western Alaska

Fire Marshall lifts suspension of fireworks for Dillingham, Naknek, and King Cove, but City of Dillingham keeping local ban in place.

KDLG:  On Thursday, the state's Fire Marshall said that recent rains and higher humidity have eased the threat of wildfires enough to lift suspensions of fireworks sales and use in Dillingham, Naknek, and King Cove. The suspension remains in place for all other communities in Western Alaska.

However, the Fire Marshall said that cities may opt to continue the ban, which Dillingham has chosen to do.

"The Fire Chief and City Manager have determined that if the State lifts the Ban on the sales and use of fireworks, the City will keep the suspension in place," the City wrote Thursday. "No permits will be issued to sell fireworks and the use of fireworks will be still be prohibited. Please have a safe and fun 4th of July."
