Togiak Woman Arrested on Importation Charges

12 bottles of Canadian Rich & Rare whiskey were seized from the luggage of Tasha Echuck, 20, as she boarded a plane to Togiak Tuesday.

DILLINGHAM:  Tasha Echuck, 20, of Togiak, who has no prior criminal history, was arrested Tuesday at the Dillingham Airport. Authorities seized 12 bottles of R&R whiskey in her luggage as she boarded a flight to the dry village of Togiak.

Echuck told authorities she was taking the whiskey to another person in Togiak who planned to sell it.

She was arraigned Wednesday in Dillingham on a misdemeanor importation charge, a felony charge for attempting to sell liquor without a license, and was also cited for underage drinking.

If convicted, Echuk faces a maximum of five years in prison for the felony charge, and up to three days on the misdemeanor.

The magistrate set bail at $2,500.
