Togiak Teen Hospitalized After Assault At School

Jaron Vaughn Wassillie, 18, has been charged with felony assault after punching a 16-year-old boy in the face, causing a concussion and breaking several facial bones.

DILLINGHAM:  A fight that happened in a bathroom at the Togiak School Monday put one teenager in the hospital and another behind bars on a felony assault charge.

Jaron Wassillie, 18, of Togiak apparently took umbrage with what he thought were derogatory comments a 16-year old boy had made about him around town. Wassillie confronted him the bathroom and allegedly struck the boy in the face at least once. The victim told authorities he was knocked out by the first blow and couldn’t recall if he'd been beaten further or not.

The 16-year old was flown to Kanakanak Hospital for treatment of a concussion and several broken bones in his face. Authorities report the boy will need to have facial bone structure reconstruction treatment in Anchorage.

Wassillie was arrested Tuesday by the VPSO and held in custody in Togiak because of poor weather.

He was arraigned on a class B felony charge of assault in the second degree Wednesday morning. The magistrate set bail at $7,500.
