Search for Platinum's Williams suspended, for now

Troopers say expected rough weather, ice instability, and lack of clues have halted the search for Henry Williams, missing since Friday.

The search for Henry Williams,74, of Platinum, has been suspended by state troopers.

Williams had traveled by ATV last Friday to Goodnews Bay on a grocery run. He left on a return trip back to Platinum around 4 p.m. that afternoon and has not been seen since. That trip should take about 30 minutes.

Last Saturday, search teams from Platinum and Goodnews Bay scoured the trails on ATVs. On Sunday, troopers flew two flights out of Bethel, one with local search volunteers on board, checking along both the beach and overland trails.

Troopers said they have turned up no clues on Williams’ whereabouts, and the instability of ice and this weekend’s weather forecast are making search conditions hazardous. They will conduct another aerial search when the weather allows.
