Science conference coming to Bristol Bay Campus seeks papers

Alaska Sea Grant

Got big ideas or research to share? The Western Alaska Inter-Disciplinary Science Conference is accepting proposals through January 31.

The Western Alaska Inter-Disciplinary Science Conference is seeking papers for a forum to be held in Dillingham in early March.

Tara Borland is coordinating the conference for the College of Rural and Community Development at UAF.

"We have a lot of different session topics this year, including fisheries, sustainable energy and green building, rural solid waste, and education," says Borland. "We’re gonna do a panel session where we hopefully get a huge discussion going about what science is needed in rural Alaska; what’s needed and how can we improve?"

The UAF rural campuses take turns hosting the WAIS conference. Last year’s took place in Bethel, and the Bristol Bay Campus last hosted it in 2012.

Borland says the forum is not just for scientists. Anyone with ideas or research to share can send a proposal through the WAISC Call for Papers webpage

The call for papers is open through January 31st, and presenters will be notified by February 10th.

The Western Alaska Inter-Disciplinary Science Conference is scheduled for March 9-12th at the Bristol Bay Campus.
