Prep underway for BOF Area M meeting

BBEDC and BBNA are looking for Bristol Bay residents who want to testify at the Board of Fisheries Area M meeting in Anchorage next month.

The Alaska Board of Fisheries will meet in Anchorage next month to discuss the Alaska Peninsula, Aleutian Islands and Chignik finfisheries/ Bristol Bay Economic Development Corporation and Bristol Bay Native Association are looking to send area fishermen to testify at the meeting, said BBEDC Regional Fisheries Director Gary Cline.

“This is a public process to voice our concerns regarding certain proposals that can have a huge impact on our Bristol Bay resident fishermen and those livelihoods that depend on our fisheries," he said.

BBNA’sGaylaHoseth said the groups are looking to send about 25 people to the meeting. Those who are interested are asked to submit a letter of interest by Jan. 21.

“What we’re asking for is a brief letter of interest if you’re interested in attending these meetings explaining your experience with the fishery and why you would like to attend the upcoming Area M meeting.”

BBEDC and BBNA will cover all travel expenses, and are asking participants to attend from Feb. 21 to March 2.

Cline said those who can't attend can still submit public comments to the Board. The deadline for those is Feb. 8.
