Power Outage in South Naknek from Wednesday's Storm

NEA says crews will attempt to replace a cross-river power line that was downed Wednesday night, and hopefully have full power restored today.

DILLINGHAM:  The stormy weather earlier this week knocked out power to South Naknek.

"The wind was blowing good during Wednesday's blizzard," said Naknek Electric Association GM Donna Vukich. "And at about 10:30 Wednesday night it downed one of our power lines that crosses the river."

Vukich said NEA crews were unable to fly from Naknek to South Naknek Wednesday night due to the weather. Crews did make it Thursday, and were able to restore "partial" power by late afternoon.

Vukich says crews will work this afternoon to replace the downed line, and hopefully have full power back today.

South Naknek residents say the lights are on this morning, but not yet many water pumps and freezers. They tell KDLG News that they're staying warm and sharing resources.

Initially there was concern that the power outage may last beyond this week, but residents now say they're hopeful the power will be back on for this weekend's Christmas party.
