Port Heiden man medevaced after knifing at SAVEC

KDLG: Bristol Bay Borough Police were called to the Southwest Alaska Vocational and Educational Center (SAVEC) after 2:00 a.m. Friday morning on a report that a man had been assaulted.

The victim, a Port Heiden man, was found to be slashed and bloodied. He told police he and his roommate, Jacinto B. George, 39, of Dillingham had gone to a local bar and grill to drink that evening. Both were at SAVEC for a marine outboard repair class. The victim said when they returned to the room, they got into a "verbal dispute about local sports teams that soon turned physical," officer John Ryshek wrote in his sworn affidavit.

Police documented several deep lacerations on his chest area, and his face was covered with blood from other wounds. He was medevaced to Anchorage for medical treatment.

The officers found George asleep in the room, with bloodied clothes strewn about. He appeared intoxicated but uninjured. No knife or "unknown sharp weapon" was recovered.

George was arrested on a charge of second degree assault, a class B felony, and arraigned Friday.
