Police seek public's help in Saturday morning vehicle theft, rollover

KDLG

Dodge truck stolen from boat harbor Saturday morning was rolled after a joyride. Whoever was in the truck at the time fled before police arrived.

DILLINGHAM:  Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the person or persons who stole a truck Saturday morning and rolled it after a brief joyride.

Police say the accident happened around 8 a.m., shortly after the truck had been stolen, driven to Wood River Road, turned around in the vicinity of Stelling Enterprises, and driven back to the harbor. Other drivers called 9-1-1 to report the truck was being driven dangerously on three wheels. Police did not say when the rear tire came off the truck, but it was recovered from the road and brought back to the accident site after.

Tire tracks show the truck driving in towards the boat harbor, crossing the paved entrance diagonally. An officer said Saturday he suspected the missing back tire was partly to blame for the rollover.

None of the callers were able to identify who was behind the wheel. After the accident, the person or persons in the truck fled the scene, and police said no suspiciously injured individuals were at the hospital as of Saturday noon.

A reddish color in a puddle next the accident was caused by vehicle fluids, not blood, said police.

The truck was reportedly parked unlocked, with the key in the ignition.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact DPD at 842-5354. An officer specifically requested that even those who believe their information may have already been reported by others should still call the department.
