Parents, Advocates Say DCSD's Special Ed Program Not in Compliance

Several formal complaints have been filed with the state, alleging poor recording keeping and failing to deliver special ed services at Head Start.

Last week an attorney from the Disability Law Center of Alaska met with parents of special education students in the Dillingham City School District. The attorney has filed several formal complaints against the way special education program is handled in the district, specifically citing a number of problems at the Head Start preschool. The district is responding to the complaints and taking some corrective action. But as KDLG’s Dave Bendinger reports, the attorney and some parents do not think the district is doing enough.

In part two, DCSD Superintendent William McLeod says the district has acknowledged some shortcomings in special ed services at the Head Start preschool, and has taken corrective action.
