Nuvista To Ask Legislature to Clear Way for Hydro Study at Chikuminuk

Nuvista says the AEA is withholding the remainder of a $10,000,000 grant to study the site until the legislature makes it legal to do so.

Nuvista Cooperative's new executive director Tiffany Zulkosky says she hopes to broaden the public outreach and work with lawmakers to find a way to finish the feasibility work at Chikuminuk Lake.

This fall the Nushagak Cooperative board of directors decided to drop the proposed hydroelectric development at Grant and Elva Lakes in the Wood Tikchik State Park, but the Nuvista Cooperative says it still wants to pursue studies at Chikuminuk Lake. 

Supporters see the Allen River, below the lake, as a potential site for a future dam that could generate power for Bethel and a few surrounding villages.
