No interest yet for empty Dillingham council seat

Mayor Alice Ruby hopes the council approves a new council member at the regular December meeting.

The Dillingham city council still needs to fill the seat vacated with the resignation of Keggie Tubbs earlier this month. The city is advertising the empty seat and accepting letters of interest, according to Mayor Alice Ruby.

"What we usually do is I'll recommend someone to the council, and then the council accepts my recommendation or could choose someone entirely different," she says.

In the past, the council has sought qualified and committed applicants to fill vacancies, said Ruby. Ruby would like to see the sixth council member appointed in December so the council can move forward with 2015.

"That's what we're hoping for, because we're always sort of working ahead. For example, the process to put together the city's budget will begin shortly after the new year. We're also scheduling some council training in December, and it would be great if this new person was able to be a part of that training."

Letters of interest are being accepted by mail and email. The city’s website has more details.

As of Monday morning, Mayor Ruby says nobody has filed interest with the city.

The five current council members are Tracy Hightower, Misty Savo, Chris Maines, Holly Johnson, and Paul Liedberg.
