New ALSC attorney in Dillingham to advocate for victims of family, sexual violence

KDLG News: Alaska Legal Services again has an attorney staffed in Bristol Bay to work directly with and advocate for victims of family and sexual violence. The position had been vacant since July 2014, after grant funding lapsed.

Kori Lorick, who works for ALSC and is an Equal Justice Works fellow, is based out of the SAFE shelter facility in Dillingham. She has been on the job for about a month.

“I’ll be working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, providing direct legal services, and then also working on education, outreach, and advocacy," said Lorick.

That can include assisting clients in filing for protective orders and handling custody and divorce cases. Lorick said her work also includes advocating for victims as the criminal cases are prosecuted, helping them navigate the legal process and understand their rights.

She can be contacted by calling 842-1766.

Alaska Legal Services Corp. has two other attorneys who work out of the BBNA building, providing a range of legal services, including wills, trusts, and estate work, housing discrimination, elder law, and more.

The free legal help from ALS is offered to clients who meet certain income eligibility requirements.
