Man sentenced in stabbing case

DILLINGHAM:  Curtis Ayuluk, 27, was sentenced Thursday to a year in prison for stabbing a man with a 3” pocket knife last March in Dillingham.

The victim, a middle aged man from Manokotak, was bleeding profusely from a chest wound when police arrived on scene. He was taken to the hospital and later recovered.

A witness told police Ayuluk had said “good bye” as he plunged one of two knives he was brandishing into the man’s chest. Police believe Ayuluk had been drinking.

He pleaded guilty to an assault charge last summer, and on Thursday Judge Pat Douglass sentenced him to one year in jail with three years suspended, and five years of felony probation. Ayuluk has already served about seven months in prison since his arrest.

The 27-year-old was also ordered to undergo anger management counseling, complete 100 hours of community service, and forfeit the two knives.
