Man charged with sexual abuse of 14-year-old girl found dead in Anchorage

KDLG: A man who was with a 14-year-old girl when she was found dead Sunday in Anchorage has been arrested. On Tuesday Anchorage police booked Stewart W. Emery Jr., 45, on one count of second degree sexual abuse of a minor.

According to KTUU reporting, Megan Sophie Johnson is originally from Napaskiak but was living in Anchorage since 2014. She was found dead Sunday afternoon in a church parking lot.

Police say Emery was with Johnson Saturday night and was at the scene when she was found deceased on Sunday. Police also questioned the girl’s 15-year-old boyfriend, who was also with her Saturday night. Police say the two men woke Sunday afternoon and found Johnson unresponsive.

Alaska state records show Emery is a registered sex offender following a conviction on second degree sexual assault in the Juneau court in 1995.

Police believe alcohol is a factor in this case, but the exact cause of Johnson’s death will be determined through a toxicology report.
