On Tuesday, Village Public Safety Officer Thomas Madole, 54, was shot and killed in the line of duty in Manokotak. Madole, a former pastor, leaves behind a wife, a son, and a daughter.
Leroy B. Dick Jr., 42, of Manokotak, was arrested near the scene of the crime and made his first appearance in court Wednesday. Dick faces one count of murder in the first degree. In court, Dick told the judge he was guilty of the crime, though it wasn't a proceeding to enter a plea. Dick is being held on $1,000,000 bail. Alaska Governor Sean Parnell has ordered all state flags be lowered Thursday in honor and memory of VPSO Thomas Madole. In a statement, Gov. Parnell called the murder a "senseless and cruel" act. Listen below.
