Legislation Introduced to Allow Guns on University Campuses

Alaska Legislature

Alaska State Senator John Coghill from North Pole has put forward legislation that would allow people to carry firearms on the campuses of the University of Alaska system. The University has prohibited guns on University property since the mid 90’s. Coghill says the Alaska Constitution allows Alaskans to keep and bear arms and he claims individuals do not lose the right to bear a concealed firearm simply because they enter a public university. Senate Bill 176 has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
