Update: Dillingham beat Tok and Bristol Bay bested Hooper Bay Thursday, advancing both teams to the semi-finals Friday.

The Bristol Bay Angels defeated the Hooper Bay Warriors Thursday night in three sets: 25-14, 25-17, and 25-18. The Angels take on Cordova next in the semi-final round at 6:00 p.m. Friday.

The Lady Wolverines won three straight sets against Tok Thursday afternoon in the state volleyball tournament at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

Athletic Director Dan Schrock reports that the Dillingham girls won by a wide margin in each set: the score was 25-5 in game 1, 25-15 in game 2, and 25-14 in the third game.

"Tok was overmatched, and our girls executed very well," said Schrock, speaking from Anchorage Thursday evening. "Tok made very few points off of our mistakes, just every once in a while they'd get lucky and get a good rally. But our girls did great -- there's room for improvement, but for a first game in a state tournament, they did very well."

Dillingham took four seniors to state, and several players were honored for outstanding performances today. Sarah Schroder and Emma Wetter won the good sportsmanship award, and Sydney Dray was the MVP of the game versus Tok.

“It's gonna be a battle from here on in," said Schrock, "but today was a really good start for our girls and I think they've got some good momentum going forward.”

Shrock says Dillingham will likely meet tougher competition in the rest of the tournament.

The Lady Wolverines will face Petersburg at 4:30 Friday afternoon.
