Knife-wielding man arrested in Dillingham Tuesday afternoon

DILLINGHAM:  Jeremy Mcgill, 29, of Dillingham was arrested near the Sifsof building downtown Dillingham Tuesday afternoon. Police allege he was wielding a large hunting knife and a crowbar in a threatening way towards two women.

When officers arrived on scene, Mcgill fled on foot, briefly creating some danger in traffic on the road.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of third degree assault, each class C felony offenses. He was also charged with resisting arrest by force, a class A misdemeanor.

Mcgill was arraigned on the charges Wednesday at the Dillingham court. The 29-year-old was polite at the hearing, and seemed upset with himself over his alleged actions. He told the magistrate judge he had only been out of jail for about 10 days, having served a 10 day sentence on a prior fourth degree assault charge.

The prosecutor said alcohol was a factor in the incident, and asked that bail be set at $7500 with a further condition that no alcohol be allowed. The magistrate judge agreed with those conditions, and added a third party custodian requirement.

Asked for his thoughts on the bail terms, Mcgill said he had followed his past probation and release conditions carefully, and added that he thought the dollar amount was a little high.

"I think $7,500 is a pretty steep climb for someone with only $2.90 in his bank account," he said, grinning.
