KDLG Legislative Call-In Show, Feb. 2

Rep. Sam Kito III (D-Juneau) joins to for KDLG's weekly call-in show, discusses state budget woes and more.

Your elected lawmakers are two weeks in to the second session of Alaska’s 29th Legislature.

Many believe we have reached a turning point in Alaska’s history; the days of living off the royalties from oil, they say, are behind us. But the path forward is unclear.

Should Alaska fund most of its government from the earnings of its wealth, specifically from the Permanent Fund?

Should it capture new and increased taxes? Or take from savings accounts, streamline government, and hope for a turnaround in the oil markets?

Joining us this week from Juneau is Rep. Sam Kito III (D-Juneau). Kito, was first appointed to a House seat vacated by Beth Kertulla, and went on to get reelected with 75 percent of the vote that November. Rep. Kito serves this session on the Labor and Commerce Committee, Budget and Audit Committee, and the Legislative Counsel.
