Ice clears early from Dillingham harbor

Boat harbor is free of ice six weeks early, but the harbor isn't fully open yet.

Dillingham’s boat harbor went ice free this week, about six weeks earlier than usual. There’s still some ice on the ramp but that will be cleared in a few days.

Port Director Jean Barrett says though the ice is clear, the harbor isn’t fully open yet.

"I'll probably have the south end put in this month at some point. I'm not in too big of a hurry to get the ramps put in, because we have the dredgers come in the 10th of May and they like to be able to work on the south end without having boats and other stuff in the way."

The harbor use fees increased this year. The tag for a 32-foot commercial fishing vessel in the harbor went up 20 dollars, now costing $280.

For 20-foot skiffs and under, it's 80 dollars for the season.  For skiffs over 20 feet, an additional $4 per foot over 20 is added to the tag price.
