Gust pleads in stalking case

180 day jail sentence for Ivan A. Gust, 27, accused of stalking 11-year-old girl after family published series of disturbing messages posted on social media.

KDLG: A 27-year-old man has pleaded guilty in a stalking case and was sentenced to 180 days in jail.

This spring Ivan Antone Gust of New Stuyahok was charged with first degree stalking, a class C felony, after a Dillingham family had said he was pursuing their 11-year-old daughter.

A series of disturbing social media posts allegedly written by Gust were made public but the family struggled to get a protective order from the court. Dillingham Police investigated Gust in May and said that he had also left a backpack with inappropriate gifts for the young girl at the family’s home, and stacked up pallets outside of her bedroom window.

He was charged with felony stalking, and state troopers arrested Gust in New Stuyahok on May 19.

Gust pleaded down to second degree stalking, a misdemeanor, and was sentenced to a year in jail with half of the time suspended. He was fined $5000 with $4500 was suspended, and following his release will be on probation until 2018.
