Former Snopac Products Owner Greg Blakey Passes Away in Mexico

A man with a long history in the seafood processing industry in Alaska passed away recently in Mexico. Greg Blakey died on December 16th after suffering a heart attack that caused a motorcycle accident on a remote road on the Baja Peninsula. Blakey was the owner and President of Snopac Products, which he sold to Icicle Seafood’s in 2012. Snopac Products operated every summer in Bristol Bay primarily with a floating processor named the Snopac Innovator. That vessel is now owned by Icicle Seafoods and was renamed the Gordon Jensen. Snopac Products also operated the seafood processing plant at the end of Wood River Road in Dillingham before that plant was taken over by Icicle Seafood’s. Greg Blakey is survived by his wife Nancy and 4 children and 3 grandchildren. The family is collecting memories and stories about Greg and they can be send via email to gregblakeymemories@gmail.com. The Board of Directors and staff with the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association issued a statement over the weekend extending condolences to the Blakey family on behalf of the entire Bristol Bay fishing community. Greg Blakey was born on March 17th, 1955 in Seattle Washington. He died at the age of 58.
