Fishing continues in Togiak, seiners near half of quota

Seiners hauled in 1,976 tons of herring Sunday, with an average weight of 400 grams and 11 percent average roe.

KDLG: The Department of Fish and Game is extending the purse seine fleet in the Togiak herring fishery another 48 hours, beginning at 10 p.m. Monday.

Yesterday the seiners harvested another 1,976 tons, taking the season total to 9,340 tons. Seiners have an allocated harvest quota 20,309 tons.

The gill net fleet continues to remain open to fish until further notice. As there are only two companies buying gill net fish this season, their harvest is confidential. Gill netters have an allocation of 8,704 tons this season.
