FAA NOTAMs, Dillingham downtown road closures Wednesday

Airspace will be restricted and a few roads closed beginning about 11 a.m. Wednesday for Mr. Obama's three hour visit in Dillingham.

KDLG:  During Wednesday planned three hour stop in Dillingham by President Obama, the Dillingham Police Department police says to expect a few road closures between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Seward Street in front of the High School will be closed, but access to the school will still be available on Central Avenue by the water tower.  D Street in downtown will also be closed to all vehicle traffic from the downtown fire hall to the 2nd Avenue Intersection near L&M Supply.

Drivers may otherwise have a normal traffic day, said DPD Chief Pasquariello Tuesday.

Two planned road closures are highlighted in red on the above map of downtown Dillingham.

"That's correct. Other than the closures of D Street and Seward Street, vehicle traffic in Dillingham will experience less interruption than we have all summer long with the road construction project," he said.

At times other intersections may be closed while the President’s motorcade passes through.

Pasquariello says those on foot should have good access along the route.

"Pedestrians will be allowed along the sides of roadways. Just please respect any barricades, and don't try to go past those. And if you're standing on the side of the road, please be aware of safety, as there will be lots of vehicles traveling in the motorcade."

The FAA flight restrictions, including a 10 nautical mile radius no-fly zone, begin at 11:30 AM and stay in effect until 3:15 PM. Regularly scheduled passenger and cargo service to and from Dillingham may not be interrupted.

The White House says Air Force One is expected to land in Dillingham at about 11:55 Wednesday, and fly on to Kotzebue by 2:45.
