Egegik man indicted on trafficking 3 pounds of meth aboard state ferry

KDLG:  Federal prosecutors announced Wednesday that a grand jury has indicted an Egegik man on a drug trafficking charge involving some three pounds of methamphetamine.

Authorities allege Jason Corey Vincent Alto, 20, was caught on May 30 with the meth inside his luggage aboard the M/V Kennicott while traveling from Washington to Whittier, Alaska. The US Coast Guard Investigative Service and Alaska State Troopers Drug Unit cooperated on the investigation. The bust happened in Ketchikan, and Alto was taken into custody.

Federal prosecutors took over the case, and presented it to grand jury. According to a press release, if convicted on the indicted charge, Alto could be sentenced to a minimum of 10 years in jail and maximum of life in prison, and be fined up to $10,000,000.
