Peter Byrne, 26, charged with felony child endangerment for reckless driving with a 3-year-old child in the car, and leaving child behind when he fled police on foot.

DILLINGHAM: Police have charged a man with child endangerment after finding a three-year-old left alone in a vehicle after the suspected drunk driver fled police on foot.

DPD says Peter Byrne, 26, was driving a Ford Explorer recklessly Thursday night. When an officer tried to pull him over, Byrne allegedly tossed an R&R whiskey bottle from the window and sped off.

The Ford Explorer was found driverless downtown, with an open 12-pack of beer and marijuana leaves scattered in the passenger seat. In the backseat, a three-year-old child was left alone and was frightened according to police.

Officers could not find Byrne Thursday night. He was picked up Friday morning, charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a minor, a class C felony.
