Dillingham Road Closures Scheduled for Upcoming Weekend

Another closure is scheduled for a stretch of Kanakanak Road between Wood River Road to the Airport Road, also known as the Airport Y. That stretch will be closed on Friday, September 5th at 9 am, and will reopen late on Sunday September 7th. Jill Reese is an Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Affairs spokesperson. She says the road will be closed for Knik Construction to continue installation of several culverts along the stretch.

What they’re doing is culvert work, and it’s some really deep culverts nearly 15 to 20 feet deep. There is just no way to leave the road open while there getting this work done. The culvert they just replaced is just north of the area where a new culvert is going to be placed. There is going to be two just south of the Wood River Road.

Knik Construction will work with individuals living inside that restricted area to get them where they need to go. Motorists will be instructed to use Waskey Road from Wood River Road in order to connect to Aleknagik Lake Road for access to the hospital, airport, and other destinations. The contractor informed the DOT that no other closures are expected for this particular stretch of Kanakanak Road this year, and that the disturbed areas will not be paved over in 2014.

[Again, Kanakanak Road will be closed for renovations this coming weekend beginning Friday at 9 am, and will last until late Sunday night from an area near Wood River Road to Airport Road.]
