Dillingham Earns Top Sportsmanship Award, 4th Overall at State NYO

Dillingham athletes reached the podium in six different events and were honored for best team sportsmanship overall.

The 45th Annual Native Youth Olympics wrapped up in Anchorage this weekend.

More than 500 athletes from all across the state were joined for the first time in decades by a foreign delegation coming  from the Yukon Territory in Canada. The tournament was held for the first time this year at the Alaska Airlines Center.

It was a big weekend for Dillingham, with 6 athletes placing in the top 5 in their events.

Results:

  • John Bouker: 5th in One-Foot High Kick at 104".
  • Sydney Dray: 2nd in Toe Kick at 66". 3rd in Kneel Jump at 44.5". 5th in One-Foot High Kick at 82".
  • Britney Dray: 1st in Seal Hop at 123'.
  • Justin Dye: 4th in Wrist Carry at 416' (carried by Gabe Gomez and Danny Miller).
  • Sarah Schroeder: 1st in Eskimo Stick Pull
  • Sadie Tuckwood: 2nd in Wrist Carry at 288.5' (carried by Gabe Gomez and Danny Miller).

Dillingham tied with Anchorage for fourth in the overall team ranking. The team also earned the top award for positive attitudes and sportsmanship, the Gloria Walker Award, for the second year in a row.
