Dillingham Court Burglarized

KDLG

Court staff are doing an inventory of files, but it appears the burglar(s) took only a mostly empty office safe.

DILLINGHAM:  The Dillingham courthouse was broken into over the weekend, likely between Sunday night and Monday morning according to police. Court staff noticed the burglary Monday morning.

The burglar or burglars forced a way in through the backdoor, likely with the use of a pry bar, and stole a safe that was bolted into the floor of the clerk’s office. That safe occasionally holds some cash, but was empty except for some building keys, according to the clerk. The court building was to be re-keyed Monday.

Court staff were planning to undertake an inventory of all court files, especially criminal cases, to verify that nothing was missing.

The Dillingham High School has a sophisticated video surveillance system that has the ability to observe activity around the court house. But according to Police Chief Dan Pasquariello Monday morning, that surveillance system was not recording at the time of the break-in.

Police dusted for fingerprints and are continuing to investigate. The safe is described as a small Sentry brand, gray, with an electronic keypad. Police are asking anyone with information to call the Department 842-5354.

A small Sentry safe was bolted to the floor beneath the clerk's desk, but was ripped out in a burglary over the weekend. The court says the safe, which occasionally contains some small cash, was empty except for some building keys.
