Dick Indicted on First Degree Murder Charge

A grand jury has indicted Leroy B. Dick Jr., 42, on the charge of murder in the first degree for the killing of VPSO Thomas Madole.

Village Public Safety Officer Tom Madole was shot and killed in the line of duty in Manokotak on March 19th.

Dick was arraigned on the charge Friday at the courthouse in Dillingham. Dick appeared telephonically; he remains in custody in Anchorage, held on $1,000,000 bail.

Dick's attorney, Jonathon Torres of the Public Defender Agency, entered a plea of "not guilty" on the indicted charge.

Judge Patricia Douglass set a trial date for June 3.
